Remote Data Acquisition

RPM and the Aurora Foundation

Elucit has developed proprietary technology, products, and services to monitor remote multiple-location processes in real-time. Now, process-sensitive, low-technology markets (such as fast-food, supermarkets, and food processing) can utilize data monitoring techniques with the aggregation, cost, and distribution benefits of the Internet. Elucit calls this Remote Performance Monitoring (“RPM”). Aurora is the foundation upon which RPM solutions can be quickly built. An RPM solution is an active, multiple-location information system consisting of:
  • Application of measurement devices (ranging from micro-sensors to PalmPilots) to collect multiple-point condition and performance data relating to key operating processes in a broad range of environments.
  • Integration of collected data into meaningful management information for quality and cost management.
  • Distribution of packaged information, warnings and action requests on a real-time basis to management for monitoring, feedback, and action.
  • Storage of such information for archival purposes relating particularly to regulatory and legal compliance.

Elucit has built unique capability to offer RPM, given its:
  • Internet Web-enabled server-based solutions
  • Device-independent application-based solutions (the Company's component framework, Aurora, dramatically reduces the time to market of vertical applications in target market segments)
  • Independence from proprietary product
  • Capability to support full range of wired and wireless third-party and proprietary devices, including wireless sensors, PDA's, loggers, PC's, pagers, and internet-enabled cellphones.

Elucit's RPM Components

OnRamp
Elucit's On-Ramp is the gateway that provides the entire link between sensors and the internet. This unit is all that's required to automatically transfer data from sensors measuring any physical parameter to Elucit's Aurora server. For example, the deli case temperatures in a Northern California supermarket are being continually...and automatically...monitored by Elucit's Aurora infrastructure. An Elucit OnRamp installed in the deli island samples the case temperatures every 5 minutes and forwards collected data to the Aurora server every 2 hours. The data is immediately analyzed by Aurora, and is available for review by authorized users via the Web. The deli department is one of the most dangerous areas in a market from a liability standpoint. If the prepared food is improperly handled after it leaves the store, and a customer gets sick, the store is generally the first to be blamed. Now, with Elucit technology and oversight, this supermarket can prove it handled the food properly. The Aurora system can also advise maintenance staff if the deli cases need service.

PalmOS
Given the application of RPM to a mobile work force, such as home healthworkers and field service providers. Aurora is able to accommodate human managed data such as scanned product codes, stock levels, patient vital signs, surveys, and maintenance logs just as easily as physical sensor data. The rapid growth of connected devices using the Palm/OS, their ease of use, and the large Palm developer base, makes them an ideal extension to the Aurora system. Elucit has developed software allowing any TCP/IP connected device running the Palm/OS to link with Aurora. This is an obvious opportunity for 3rd party application developers.

Docudot
Our docuDot system demonstrates one of the many sensor-to-customer real time information solutions possible using Aurora. The docuDot system works with small inexpensive temperature recorders from Dallas Semiconductor. These are handy for tracking shipping conditions, spot-checking refrigerators, etc. The recorders are administered entirely over the Internet using your Web browser. Aurora handles the account, provides security, generates graphs, and immediate alarm notifications... all with instant global access.

This demonstration allows you to send the contents of a recorderto Aurora where it is immediately verified, and browse the temperature record from anywhere in the world! The recorder can then be immediately redeployed. It never has to be returned prior to reuse.

To collect your own Data using our docuDot system, you'll need a ThermochronTM temperature recorder and an iButtonTM cable connected to a serial port on your computer. These can be purchased from Avatel Or Dallas Semiconductor Give us a call (707-937-2441) or email Elucit for purchasing details.

To View live data on our public site. Simply use our automatic logon, or go to aurora and sign on as "public" and use password "public". To get started, click on the + next to the "Demo", then click on docuDots. Check the box next to one of the recording sessions (e.g. refrigerator) then click on "Graph".
